Hot Tub Benefits - Relieve the symptoms of Sports Injuries and Arthritis
12th February 2012 // Howard Whiteson

How hot tubs can relieve sports injury and Arthritis symptoms. Read on to learn more.

As stated in a previous blog - How Hot Tubs Can Lower Blood Pressure, BISHTA has found that hot tubs help relieve symptoms of various sports injuries. Indeed we find that athletes, both professionals and amateurs, as well as people who simply enjoy a round of golf, game of tennis, or visit to the gym, find their hot tubs relieve injuries.

As well as this, hot tubs can actually prevent injuries from occurring in the first place. Immersing yourself in hot water before you exercise causes blood vessels to dilate and blood flow to increase, which along with the jets, relaxes every muscle. After exercise, a hot tub not only relaxes muscles but can reduce or eliminate any soreness which might otherwise occur.

BISHTA also stated that the symptoms of arthritis were alleviated by using a hot tub. Indeed, as proud sponsors of the Arthritis Foundation, we have found many customers have benefitted from this aspect of hot tub ownership.

In the UK, the Arthritis Foundation recommends exercising and relaxing in warm water:

"Why Water Exercise?"

• The soothing warmth and buoyancy of warm water make it a safe, ideal environment for relieving arthritis pain and stiffness.
• Immersing in warm water raises your body temperature, causing your blood vessels to dilate and increasing circulation.
• Water exercise is a gentle way to exercise joints and muscles.
• Water supports joints to encourage free movement, and may also act as resistance to help build muscle strength.
• Using a spa adds a component to the therapy - massage. Jet nozzles release warm water and air, massaging your body and helping you relax tight muscles.

Benefits of heat can include:

• Muscle relaxation
• Decreased pain and stiffness
• Greater ease when performing exercises and daily activities.

(Please note, however, that the Arthritis Foundation recommends seeing your doctor to ensure a hot tub provides relief for particular conditions. For more information, see: http://www.arthritis.org/water-exercise.php.)

Isn't it great to know you can find pain relief at the touch of a button?
